Winter hiking trails and snowshoe trails with a dreamlike backdrop
Here you will be rewarded with a panoramic view of the distant Matterhorn and other four-thousand-metre peaks of the Valais and the snow-covered Great Aletsch Glacier!
The winter hike on a prepared path from the Moosfluh via Blausee to the valley station of the Moosfluh cable car on the Riederalp is only around six kilometres long and masters a height difference of 450 metres, downhill. One of the highlights at the top station is the view over the Great Aletsch Glacier to the Gross Wannenhorn and in the distance to the four-thousand-metre peaks of the Valais Alps. Who knows at least three of them?
Then along the ridge to Breitebode. Here we leave the ridge and climb towards the mountain restaurant Chüestall - where a culinary pampering programme awaits us, with a panoramic view. After a long rest we continue our hike, back to Riederalp.
The easy, well marked snowshoe trail from Bettmeralp to Riederalp lures you with a winter idyll away from the hiking trails. Directly from the top station of the cable car Bettmeralp the track leads slightly uphill to the Hotel Waldhaus. Continue along the edge of the forest to Gopplerlücke. At the highest point of the snowshoe tour we enjoy the overwhelming view into the distance.
The snowshoe trail now leads leisurely downhill along the forest tracks. Around the Schweibufluo you get to Golmenegg - and on to Riederalp or on a lower trail back to Bettmeralp.
Arrival:
With the Matterhorn Gotthard Railway to Mörel or Betten valley station. By cable car to the holiday villages on the sun terrace, Riederalp and Bettmeralp.
Another tip:
Snowshoe tours with Edelbert Kummer (Ed). As a native he is a connoisseur of the region around the Aletsch Glacier. He knows a lot about the country and its people.
